Bloodborne Pathogens

Reducing the risk of workplace exposures to Bloodborne Pathogens is contained within the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) regulations set forth in 29 CFR 1910.1030. The purpose of this standard is to protect workers by preventing exposures to Bloodborne Pathogens through the utilization of work practice controls, personal protective equipment and training. The purpose of Rensselaer’s Bloodborne Pathogen Exposure Control Plan is to provide a reference and procedural document for employees of Rensselaer. The Bloodborne Pathogen standard is designed to apply to all individuals that are covered by the occupational exposure definition (reasonably anticipated skin, eye, mucous membrane, or parenteral contact with blood or other potentially infectious materials that may result from the performance of an employee’s duties), but the information is useful to all faculty, staff and students of Rensselaer.

Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan (ECP)

This ECP serves as a broad-based exposure control plan for all Institute personnel whose occupational tasks or responsibilities include reasonably anticipated risk of exposure to human blood or other potentially infectious materials (OPIM) of human origin, including occupations with non-routine exposure.

Hepatitis B Declaration Form

All employees identified as at-risk for occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens must sign the Institutes Hepatitis B Vaccine Declaration Form initially at the time of their employment. This form allows for signing to receive or decline the vaccination series. If the vaccination series is declined, the employee may chose to be vaccinated in the future, doing so requires the completion of a new declaration form.
