RPI's Hot Work Program was designed to protect the campus community for all operations that involve open flames, produce sparks, hot slag, or excessive heat. Written procedures are required for all operations involving brazing, cutting, grinding, torch soldering, and welding.
Soldering with a solder iron is an activity that does not require permitting under the Hot Work Program. For more information on soldering activities that do not require a torch, please see our Soldering Safety Guidelines.
