Environmental Health & Safety (EHS), in collaboration with Human Resources, has updated Rensselaer’s laboratory safety course. The updated course contains seven modules that cover basic aspects of laboratory safety: the hierarchy of EHS controls, prudent experiment planning, engineering controls, safe work practices, personal protective equipment, waste management, and how to handle emergencies. The course will take approximately 90 minutes to complete.
The laboratory safety course is an important part of Rensselaer’s overall safety program and provides the campus community with resources for conducting laboratory activities in a safe and efficient manner. Individuals who work in laboratory and research spaces have the primary responsibility for, and greatest impact on, safety in Rensselaer’s labs. By educating our community on these critical topics, we can improve safety and reduce the risk of injuries and other laboratory incidents from occurring.
Students, faculty and staff who work in laboratory and research spaces are required to take Rensselaer’s Laboratory Safety Series now available in Percipio. If you are assigned the course, you will receive an email with more information. If you are not directly assigned the course but may have occasion to work in a laboratory environment, you can locate it in Percipio under Optional Compliance Assignments. Use these Instructions for Accessing Required Modules in Percipio to locate Rensselaer’s Laboratory Safety Series. Contact EHS@rpi.edu with any questions.
